About Take a Pain Check Foundation

Take a Pain Check was launched as a podcast in March 2021 by Natasha Trehan. Natasha was diagnosed at the age of 13 with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, and is currently studying Transitional and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa. As a teenager, she felt alone and was unable to find resources to connect with other people with similar lived experiences. After joining a support group 2 years into her journey, and meeting tons of other youth, The Take a Pain Check Podcast was born to ensure that young patients feel supported in every step of the way.

Are you living with a diagnosis of rheumatic disease? Take a Pain Check Foundation is offering a meaningful scholarship to full-time students pursuing further learning at Canadian universities or colleges. And those enrolled in trade school educational programs starting in September 2024. We’re seeking individuals who embrace a lifestyle that transcends the limitations imposed by living with a disability.

The Young Scholars Program is here to empower students living with rheumatic diseases by offering workshops, financial support, and access to essential tools and resources. These initiatives aim to help students excel academically and personally, despite the ongoing challenges they face due to their conditions.

Benefits of Take a Pain Check Foundation STEM Without Limits Scholarship

The STEM Without Limits Take a Pain Check Scholarship, valued at $2,500 CAD each. It is open to students living with a rheumatic condition who are currently pursuing higher education in any science, technology, mathematics, or engineering related field. This scholarship seeks to provide equal access to opportunities for individuals with rheumatic diseases, empowering them to advance rheumatology through research, innovation, and advocacy. We believe in a future where individuals in STEM with rheumatic conditions are recognized for their hard work and contributions. This scholarship is open to one STEM undergraduate student and one graduate MD/DMD/DDS student, and selection will be based on academic excellence and community involvement.

Requirements for Take a Pain Check Foundation STEM Without Limits Scholarship

The following Are the requirements for the scholarship program:

Canadian citizens or permanent residents
Currently enrolled part time or full time in a Canadian university/trade school/college.
- STEM Without Limits: Any STEM program or Graduate STEM degree (MD/DMD/DDS only).
- Learn Without Limits: Any program excluding STEM.
