University of East Anglia David Sainsbury Scholarships in Global Plant Health

The David Sainsbury Scholarships in Global Plant Health, offered by The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL), provide prestigious funding opportunities for students enrolled in the MSc in Global Plant Health at the University of East Anglia (UEA). These scholarships aim to support exceptional students in addressing global plant health challenges through comprehensive tuition fee coverage, maintenance grants, and travel cost allowances. Scholarship award is on a competitive basis to a limited number of applicants, emphasising academic achievement and experience in relevant fields such as molecular biology and bioinformatics.

Benefits of University of East Anglia Masters Scholarship

Each full scholarship will cover up to:

The full cost of the tuition fee (£35,450 international fee for 2025-26)
Maintenance grant (exact value at the UKRI postgraduate researcher stipend level to be determined for 2025-26; in 2024-23 it was £19,237)
An additional £4,000 for travel costs (subject to valid economy class travel receipts)

Requirements for University of East Anglia Masters Scholarship

You are eligible for a full scholarship under these terms if you meet all these criteria:

You are in receipt of an offer of a place on the UEA MSc in Global Plant Health
You are a national of or domiciled in a least-developed, low-income, or lower-middle-income country or territory as defined by the Overseas Development Agency Development Assistance Committee (DAC) list, version 2024-25 for entry in 2025-26 academic year.

Selection Process

Once the eligibility criteria is met, you will automatically get consideration for the scholarship, on a competitive basis. There will be no need for a separate application.

Candidate’s Evaluation of the scholarship will be on the basis of the same criteria used to evaluate your application to enrol on the course. The criteria are: academic achievement and academic awards together with knowledge/experience/potential of molecular biology, genetics, molecular interactions, data science such as bioinformatics and statistics, laboratory skills, and independent study.
